LAZARE SAID...
i don't know. how would the thing work? gotta think about it, reach an agreement with the parties involved, how we would operate. i'm in as long as it doesn't take me more time than what i usually do for the site (and that's not much). so... i don't know. but it could be interesting, what we may come up with (?)
and _ may we keep posting our shit if we're outta the deal, besides the collective whatever? intriguing.
best wishes
lazare

DAVID SETCHELL SAID...
I'm in.
I'll give some thoughts in a bit . but first and foremost.
i consider everything i write to be open source in nature; the most lienient and limber of GPL's.
i.e. do anything you fucking want with my words.
trash them.
run them through 12 Tube screamers in sequence.and play them back with a mixtapeboxandboom
this is just so that, whoever gets down on this may know that they don't need my permission to use or not use
anything i provide at their whim.

answer to lazare>>>yes, of course. keep posting BUT hold onto your work until the collective chapter is finished. is that ok?
answer to eva>>>fantastic! thanks.
answer to david>>>thank you. youu are very open and honest. pleasure to 'know' you.
answer to robert>>>i knew that i could count on you.
At moment i'm very busy but I'll try, ok.
ruela>>>no problem. you are still a very active part of discharge.
have a vignette "about" two angel/alien hybrids looking out on a cityscape that is crumbling/under assault that may be a good place to open, if people are ok with that
i think id like to re-work it a bit first as it is a bit more lyrically surreal than most of my stuff...but of course it doesnt have to stay that way...it can fly off in any direction
robert>>>sounds good to me. i have written some stuff too. maybe we could do this as a 'relay'???
but we will need some to do the images. at the moment all we have is writers. word makers but no image makers.
lazare>>>forget my previous comment. we can always title the pieces we write with a numerical sequence so keep on writting.
that's ok, dont mind me
you start us off, CJ
i cant find that vignette anywherem, and im tired of looking for it now
fresh guh is a better place to start anyway :)
robert>>>please don't misunderstand me. i don't want to take over. my words will fit in anywhere. find your piece. start us off. please.
ps. we will need some images though.
CJ,
i wasnt being overly-polite or deferential...i really DID want to start off...chuckles
i honestly cant find that piece...it's SOMEWHERE on the web, as well as a local zine here in Toronto
but i cant find it
you start
and i think the best way to proceed is just a free-for-all, where people participate as they feel
Matina organized something similar on facebook, and it turned out really well that way
Sorry late into this. I'm open to any and all ideas. Have you worked out any practicalities as yet? 'Collective' in what sense? ...given D3 is collective itself, do you mean all or some being able to alter/add-to given post(s)? That would be a nice change of pace, and would, I bet, lead to interesting end-results in some cases. I like the 'death of the author' attitude it would carry. Any pairs/trios etc. emerged as yet?
murmurists>>>collective as in a jazz type format. where one leads, say me, and then you or matina or robert post something of theirs. free form but possibly with a theme.
improv lit with images. death of the author indeed.
no, no parings as yet but that NEEDS to be the next step i think.
how do we go about this?
should i start by pairing people off? (not my style really) or just let people do their owm pairing? you and matina.
robert and eva and so on.
of course we don't have to do this on d3. we could 'save it up' for d4.
the twin demon of blogger and myspace!
more murmurusts>>>not so much add to an existing post or to change that post but to follow on from it. take it from one point to another. so that the next team member takes up the baton from the former poster.
ok folks, ive found part of the piece i was referring to earlier, the one about the angels looking out on a city beseiged by??? and crumbling
it is saved as a DRAFT at the blog, and is called As If From a Distant Star
now, of course just because that is the opening theme of the vignette, this piece can go ANYWHERE...wild leaps of logic and even setting are totally cool
my suggestion is not to take turns in a formal fashion, but for people to jump in as they feel, a free-for-all
we will know when the piece is finished when the energy dissipates organically and a long period of time passes before anyone adds on to it (say ten days??)
AV AT ER, MATES!!!
i noticed that for his contribution, CJ made an entirely new draft post
i think it would be better if everyone just stuck to the original post marked As If FRom A Distant Star (Collaboration)
just go in there, poke around and paste your contribution in there
or i could do what i did with CJ's contribution...went inside his saved draft, copied it, then went back to the original post and pasted it in there (while not deleting his post marked As If 2
whew
robert>>>fine. and sorry.
laffs...no biggy, CJ
that way the piece wont proceed incrementally, it will be one big piece
and you get the death of the author thingy that Murmurists talked about because, after a few posts, nobody will know who posted what :)
robert>>>you don't think we need some images in there then?
just one big piece posted as one?
won't that be a huge post?
still, if everyone is happy with it...lets go for it.
murmurists>>>can't wait to hear from you.
as i understood it, we dont have any image-makers firmly committed to this piece
but cant images just be inserted in there with blocks of text?
we may still have some working out to do, but at least we are on our way :)
whoops
sorry CJ, i ve just encountered a new problem
i think we have to go back to doing it the way you did at first,
with the piece proceeding incrementally in single, individual posts
why?
Blogger has a hard time loading and saving posts that exceed a certain number of words
so if the post gets TOO big, it is quite possible that someone could post their contribution, hit SAVE DRAFT
and accidentally have Blogger swallow/lose the entire post
(so, yeah, i guess you shld go into the draft i saved, copy your text out and label it as you had it earlier)
this is harder than i thought it would be
Hi there....What's everyone doing? Just jumping in and changing stuff ad hoc...?
How do we decide when 'finished'? Have an arbitrary cut-off date/point at which point we publish...??
What if we publish, but then use the piece as start point for next joint collab. - so it is continually changing/mutating.... then is published at arbitrary or pre-agreed points...tho I spose we might as well start from scratch again LOL - as there would be no real gain, as such...like the idea of illos embedded in the piece - these could be available for mutation too...
sorry for ramble..
Okay, basically, I took CJ's version as it was most recent and 'remixed' it, then saved as version 3 - so there to use in whatever way you see fit. Feel free to take a dump on it or whatever. Have saved a copy on my h-drive if anyone thinks it holds up as a one-off or interim or whatever.
I may remix Rob's too...unless/until anyone clarifies what the 'rules' of engagement are (if there are any LOL!)
kek-w>>>initially the idea was for rob (or whoever) to write a start and then for me (or whoever) to follow on with the next bit. this would then allow for the story to be read as a whole or in sections.
after the first set of words posted the following sequence of posts could take whatever format the writer wants to take them. in any direction they choose.
iff you want to add the next bit (great) and you want to remix my or robs words then fine, just make sure it is entitled by the same tag that we all must use. (that is the only rule honest).
once the draft(s) in terms of words are completed (this by whoever feels the tale has taken its course) then we will add images to the whole thing and then post the piece up.
best possible way, i feel, is to take a whole chapter (the archive on discharge is marked up as chapters and dated in one month for each chapter)and post the individual pieces, with their image counterparts so that the reader can then see the whole thing in one setting.
how doo you guys feel about that?
Cool!
Sounds good...
ok cool, CJ
im just gonna post some wordage
im sure it will all work out in the end
yeah, sorry - flu's obv. made me more stupid than usual...I misinterpreted each of the saved blocks as a rolling rewrite/remix, rather than additional blocks that were kinda accreting on the original like sections or mini-chapters....duh!
